  • Super Speedy Internet

Sometime in the last hour, my Comcast cable connection seems to have received a speed boost. Here are the results from Speakeasy’s speed test using the San Francisco, CA server (I am also in San Francisco)

Now, I am not sure what types of download speeds I was getting before, but I am pretty sure they were no where close to 15Mbit/sec. My best guess is that last time I tested my connection speed it was in the 4Mbit/sec range. Not sure if this is part of something that was announced, if it is Comcast’s Holiday gift to us, or if it just a temporary glitch in the matrix, but I guess I should enjoy it while I can. And yes, the upload speeds are still slow….maybe those will get bumped next.

  • New Setup

I finally received a Dell monitor that works (3rd time is the charm), so this is what I ended up with:

    • Dell 2405FP
    • Dell 2001FP
    • MacBook Pro
    • Mac Mini
    • Logitech X Revolution
    • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard
    • iCurve (thanks Matt!)

It’s working out pretty well so far. I am using Synergy to control the Mini and the MacBook Pro from the same mouse and keyboard. Also have Parallels installed so I can run Windows when needed. TODO: Upgrade to 2GB of RAM in both the Mini and the MacBook Pro.

  • Worst policy…ever

I’m sitting on a plane heading to NYC. In front of me there are 16 empty rows. Behind me there is maybe 1 empty seat. United won’t let anyone move up unless they pay a $54 upgrade. No wonder this airline doesn’t make any money – what a dumb move.

  • Lesson learned

If you have a middle name, use it when booking air travel. It could save you hassle and a trip to the FBI watch list.
