Road trip to Texas

Tomorrow morning I am leaving for Texas. When I drove from Texas to San Francisco in January of 2007 I said to myself I would never do it again, but in today’s world I guess never < 2 years. Going to take a bit of scenic route this time. Here is the map. It breaks down as follows:

Day 1: San Francisco, CA to Pismo Beach, CA (via Hwy 1)

Day 2: Pismo Beach, CA to Grand Canyon, AZ

Day 3: Grand Canyon, AZ to Albuquerque, NM

Day 4: Albuquerque, NM to Lubbock, TX

Day 5: Lubbock, TX to Houston, TX

Day 6: Houston, TX to San Antonio, TX

Total trip is 2383 miles. Will try to post some pictures along the way.

If you pass through Abilene on your leg from Lubbock to Houston, be sure to stop by either Harold’s BBQ or Joe Allen’s. Harold’s is amazingly good, and something not to be missed, and Joe Allen has been brought in to cater for President’s at the White House.

Apart from that, there’s not much else to do…

Hope you are having a great trip. Boy, am I glad I didn’t know about the helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon BEFORE you did it. You know me…….

Wow! That is awesome. This is the exact roadtrip Jason and I have been wanting to take from San Antonio all the way up to San Fran. We wanted to stop at the Grand Canyon and take HWY1 up through Cali. Thanks for the map, we will use it!
Also, what car are you driving? Let me know how long it takes ya.

Oh man – that is great! I just got back from a week long road trip from Albuquerque to San Antonio ( with a lot of places in between ) – map. It sounds like you will be driving straight through, with very little stops.

Oh,. and the google maps in combination with the iPhone got us through our whole trip.

In my experience, the more simple your means of travel, the more exciting and rewarding the entire trip will be. Nothing beats the classic roadtrip or backpacking tour to open up your eyes to the world.
